Ensemble Augelletti

Having worked together for nearly 5 years, we have made the exciting step of taking an ensemble name this Autumn and launch with the release of our new cd, Indoor Fireworks. In its full setting, the ensemble comprises recorder, two violins, viola, and continuo. In our chamber form, we present concerts as a trio of recorder, cello, and theorbo.

Directed and founded by Olwen Foulkes, the ensemble is currently focused on exploring the chamber music and concertos that were performed on London theatre stages in the first decades of the 18th century as part of interval entertainments and benefit concerts.

The name Augelletti means ‘little birds’ and references the aria ‘Augelletti che cantate’ that comes from the first act of Handel’s opera Rinaldo.
