Founded and directed by recorder player Olwen Foulkes, Ensemble Augelletti is an ensemble focused on exploring the chamber music and concertos that were performed on London theatre stages in the first decades of the 18th century. The name Augelletti means ‘little birds’ and references the aria ‘Augelletti che cantate’ that comes from the first act of Handel’s opera Rinaldo. The ensemble has worked together for nearly 5 years and recently made the step of taking a new ensemble name to coincide with the release of their new cd, Indoor Fireworks in November 2019. In its full setting, the ensemble comprises recorder, two violins, viola, and continuo. In its chamber form, Augelletti present concerts as a trio of recorder, cello, and theorbo. The ensemble have performed live on BBC Radio 3, in several UK Arts Festivals and Early Music Festivals, and were winners of the FBAS young artist competition in Italy in 2019.
